Abstract

This chapter presents the mechanical properties of recycle aggregate concrete (RAC) with recycle aggregate from different construction’s waste, used as partial replacement for natural aggregate. The various recycle aggregate used are obtained from the demolished precast and in-situ concrete waste. The recycled aggregates were cleaned, processed and graded according to BS 882: 1992. The percentage of recycle aggregate used as natural aggregate’s replacement is 25%. RAC was cast and fabricated into cubes and cylindrical specimens. Theses specimens were tested under compression, tension and flexure load to determine its compressive strength, tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, and flexural strength. The performance of RAC specimens were compared to performance of control specimens from natural aggregate. The performance of RAC from precast concrete was also compared to the performance of RAC from in-situ concrete. It was found that RAC has lower compressive strength, modulus of elasticity and flexure strength but higher tensile strength compared to normal concrete. Meanwhile, RAC from in-situ concrete has higher tensile strength, modulus of elasticity and flexure strength, and at par compressive strength when compared to RAC from precast concrete.
