Abstract

The modern industry has come to recognize the importance of this non-traditional metal finishing method, known as abrasive flow finishing (AFF). Applications for the method can be found in many different industries, including the aerospace, defense, surgical, and tool production sectors. Surface finish characteristics are primarily controlled by machining parameters such as workpiece configuration, grit size, flow volume, number of cycles, and medium. The AFF method has been combined with other unconventional processes to produce hybrid processes, which has been popular recently. This has created new opportunities for completing hard-to-machine materials with intricate shapes that were previously unattainable. The fundamental technological foundation for micro-, nano-, precision-, and mesoscale engineering is emerging from these methods. To choose the ideal machining parameter settings for the smoothening of a variety of jobs in practice, this study offers a perception into the elementary and useful research in this field and improves comprehension of this finishing process.
