Abstract

Indoor air pollution is not a new problem but has become an issue in today's building environment. Occupant began to realize the direct effects of indoor air pollution, and the importance of good indoor air quality, especially when related to children health and life inside classroom. This study conducted to measure the level of indoor air quality for different parameters in selected pre-school based on Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. Selected pre-school has been chosen located around Batu Pahat and Muar area. Six parameters that has been chosen in order to develop the assessment instrument specifically for the pre-school classroom. These parameters are referred to the Industry Code of Practice, 2010 as assigned to measure the level of indoor air quality and verified by expert panels from academic background and IAQ field background. The result show that, Paya Redan Pre-school recorded total of IAQ index with 71.93%, while Pintas Raya recorded total of IAQ index with 100% and Seri Aman recorded total of IAQ index with 100%. The significant finding from this objective is most of Pre-school can be classified as IAQ index with good conditions at below acceptable limits. However, there was one parameter that recorded with above acceptable limits at Paya Redan Pre-school which was CO₂. Finally, the outcome of this research could give benefit and provide guideline to school management in order to improve IAQ towards conducive and healthy environment.
