Abstract

A finite element based wear modelling methodology, along with computational device which decoupling the wear effect to facilitate the capture of plasticity accumulation on a particular profile of wear scar at a specific number of cycles is presented. It is found that the significant plasticity accumulation due to plastic shakedown is predicted in partial slip case, while saturation of plastic deformation is predicted in gross sliding case. It is also predicted that although significance accumulation of plasticity is predicted, it doesn't contributes much to the stress and strain range observed in the contact. It is assumed that plasticity accumulation in turns contributes towards wear of the material and feeds the stress changes which affect the fatigue life indirectly.
