Abstract

Concept mapping is a graphical method for describing a specific concept. When used in the teaching and learning process, it can improve student achievement and reduce a problem in the learning among students. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of concept mapping on teaching and learning Bachelor Information Technology and Multimedia in Design Phase. The study used a pre and post-test quasiexperimental time series interruption design method with a control group. The samples were two groups of second semester first year student those take a subject BIT 2013 System Analysis and Design. The samples by control compare comprised of two student groups consist of 25 students for the experimental group and 25 students for the control group. The experimental group was taught using concept mapping and the control group was taught without it. The research instruments were a knowledge achievement test (Quiz) and a questionnaire. Data have been analyzed using the descriptive method by frequency, mean score and standard deviation and inferential method by one way ANOVA. The results show that there no significant statistically difference for achievement test knowledge before (Pre Test) between two groups (p>0.05) with score experiment group mean and control group is 3.280, while there are significant statistically difference for achievement test knowledge after (Post Test) between both groups (p<0.05) with score mean highest experiment group is 5.760 over control group 4.280, which means that the use of concept mapping enhances the effectiveness of concept learning in System Analysis and Design. Student also can accept the use of concept map in the teaching and learning process.
