Abstract

Complications Such as Restenosis, Reported After the Implantation of Stent in Patent Ductus arteriosus (PDA) are closely related to the design of the stent. In this study, numerical analysis on the wall shear stress in the stented PDA region is performed. Three stented PDA with different stent designs are subjected to pulsatile flow which represents the cardiac cycle in neonates. Wall shear stress (WSS) is calculated at the wall of the stented region in a cardiac cycle. The results show PDA stented with Type II stent has the lowest stented area exposed to low WSS, while PDA implanted with Type III stent has the highest area exposed to low WSS. Therefore, low risk of restenosis is predicted in PDA implanted with Type II stent.
