Abstract

In recent years, there is a new many new technologies evolved according to the research development. One of these new technologies is an autonomous robot which means it can handle itself automatically. One of the important thing for autonomous robot is how to control a robot properly and how to avoidance the obstacle without causing an accident. In this kind of field ultrasonic sensors can be used for obstacle detection and avoidance. Ultrasonic wave are sound with frequency higher than 20 kHz which is not hear by humans. Ultrasonic signals are easily to reflect due to its highly directional characteristic. The distance of the object can be obtained by measure the time taken for transmits ultrasonic wave to reflect and receive back. However ultrasonic can get poor result on sharp object, discrepancy and hardness of surface. These problems will tend to inaccurate to estimate and avoid an obstacle.
