Smartphones has gained much attention in Malaysia. According to the statistics by Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (2012), the percentage of smartphones users doubled to 26% in year 2012 from the previous year. This increase is expected to grow further in the year 2013. However, there are still 74% of people who do not use smartphone. These statistics indicate the need to further understand future smartphone adoption in Malaysia. The increased use of smartphones among people also increases new challenges due to a whole new level of acceptance of the smartphone technology in life (Jarenfors & Sturesson, 2012). However, the adoption of people towards this growing technology is still uncertain and no one is able to see the future scenario of smartphone in Malaysia. The unknown direction smartphone is moving towards concerns all Malaysians as it has the ability to empower a country and its citizens (Gale and Jackson, 2013). The adoption of smartphone among people plays an important role in determining the future of smartphone in Malaysia. This is because the future trend will not wait for human adaptability thus making smartphone adoption vital. Since there is still inadequate research on anticipating future trends and challenges arisen from smartphone technology that drive the adoption of smartphones in this digital world, this research aims to identify issues and main drivers through its findings.
