Over the past year, the usage of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and engineering tools in the automotive industry has been expanding significantly. One of the important benefits that it reduces the number of expensive, physical prototypes and the capabilities for direct access to CAD geometry data where the FE models can be quickly developed. However, the probability for errors occur in the analysis is high due to the level of model complexity. For this reason, some form of model verification is essentially needed before design decisions made in the FEA environment can be implemented in production with high confidence. Updating is generally used to guarantee accurate correspondence with reality. This paper focused on the application of dynamic correlation technique and modal updating on truck chassis. The dynamic characteristic of truck chassis such as the natural frequency and mode shape were determined using finite element method. Experimental measurement by modal testing is carried out to determine the accuracy of finite element analysis. Results shown that FE model and EMA revealed that there are discrepancies at frequency with error range less than 25%. By further adjusting the selective properties such as Modulus Young and mass density in modal updating, a better agreement between both analysis can be obtained with error reduced to ± 2%.
