Abstract

A study was undertaken to develop a pedestrian level of service (P-LOS) model for crosswalks at signalized intersections for the purpose of improving the serviceability of crosswalks at signalized intersections and identifying factors which affect pedestrian crossing at these locations. The factors fall into three main categories, which are pedestrian factors, crosswalk factors and roadway factors. The P - L O S model w a s developed using multiple linear regression analysis. From this study, it was found that pedestrian crossing time, pedestrian flow, pedestrian delay, crosswalk surface condition , crosswalk marking, pedestrian holding area and roadway width were significant in the development of the P - L O S model, and therefore influenced the movement of pedestrians at signalized intersections.
