Abstract

This paper describes a model for community-based action skills and competencies in the process of delivering Housing Market Renewal (HMR) in England. It integrates the concepts of sustainable communities and facilities management (FM) approach that recognises the additional skills necessary to be acquired by key participants involved in the process of delivering HMR. The initial findings from pilot case study undertaken at one of HMR Pathfinder (Pathfinder) areas are discussed. The findings indicate gap between the UK Government intentions and the local community expectations. The conflict suggests that the relevant participants involved in the process of delivering HMR need to highlight issues of additional skills necessary for community-based action. The model provides framework for identifying the additional skills and competencies that need to be acquired by the relevant participants in the process of delivering HMR.
