Abstract

Polystyrene can act as polymer resist and recently we found out that it can be turned into carbonaceous nanoparticles or graphine nanodots by electron beam and LASER irradiation. Confirmation of the molecular structural changes of the poltstyrene nanospheres were done using Fourier-Transform-Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy which were also found resistant toward Argon-Oxygen plasma treatment. The fluctuating of formation and reformation of Oxygen Double Bond (OD) stretching can be traced in the XPS spectrums indicating the zwittter characteristic of overecposure polymer resists such as polystyrene to laser irradation, could be due to the fluctuation formation of C=O bonding in the irradiated polystyrene nanospheres.
