Over the past few years, thin film solar cells have been researched by scientists to improve the energy conversion efficiency. However, most of the scientists are focussing on light absorbing materials in the solar cell structure. There is a possibility that Transparent Conducting Oxide (TCO) would affect the overall efficiency of the solar cells. Recently, Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) and Fluorine Tin Oxide (FTO) have been widely used for the TCO. In this research, we will introduce Zinc Oxide (ZnO) as the TCO for the solar cell structure. This is because ZnO has more chemical and thermal stability compared to ITO and FTO. In addition ZnO is abundant material and very cost effective for electronic application. In this work, ZnO thin films doped with Aluminium (Al) will be fabricated using three furnace chemical vapour (CVD). The deposition parameters such as dopant concentration, deposition temperature etc will be studied to optimized the electrical conductivity of the Aluminium-doped Zinc Oxide (AZO) thin films. The structural properties of the AZO will be observed using FIeld Effect Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The optical properties will be studied using UV-VIS-NIR spectrometer and the electrical properties will be measured using current-voltage (IV) measurement system. The correlation of the structural with the optical and electrical properties will be analyzed. By doping ZnO with Aluminium, we expect to get high conductivity thin films and suitable for solar cell applications.
