Abstract

Generic skills are important in the education sector especially at the teachers training institute. Trainee teachers with good mastering of generic skills will be able to compete in the world of teaching. Until now, there are no instrument to evaluatethe generic skills among the trainee teachers. Therefore, this review intends to build an instrument which can evaluate the generic skills among trainee teachers at the Malaysian Teachers Training Institute. Rasch Model is being used to check the functionality of the item and detect the validity and the reliability of the instrument and also the validity of the framework of the Trainee Teachers Generic Skills. After identifying the problems statements and reviewing the literature, researcher will discuss the design of the study, population and sample, research instrument, the collection and analysis of the data. The construction of the items will involve 10 steps which are divided into three stages. Firstly, the construction stage, which will be divided into four steps, that is the purpose of building the instrument, to define the content of the instrument, to give the definition and to build the table of specifications. At the second stage, the construction of the instrument which is divided into three steps; the writing of the items, the judgment of the expertise and the revised items. At the confirmation stage, there are three steps which involve pilot study, reliability and validity analysis and the improvement items. The qualitative data collected which will be used to identify the construct and the the formation of the item will be analyst using Fleiss Kappa. This is to define and evaluate the level of agreementfor every item in the dimensions of constructs and items. Quantitative data will be analyst using Rasch measurement model to define the reliability and validity of the instrument. The confirmation of the factor will be done by using the principal component analysis.
