The concept of adalah and musawah in Islam is not based on human intellect but on al-Quran and al-Sunnah. This concept is often misunderstood by a number of modern Muslim scholars by associating it to human-rights; the exclusive rights granted to every human. Among them are Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd has even put this concept back to nature and freedom that God has endowed man until he wills to make changes to the laws of the Quran if the law is not in line with the concept being conveyed by him. This excessive emphasis on human values is against the concept of adalah and musawah in accordance with al-Quran and al-Sunnah. Therefore, this study aims to examine the thought of Abu Zayd on the Quran and the concept of cadalah and musawah by making constant comparisons with the concept of cadalah and musawah according to al-Quran and al-Sunnah. This is a qualitative study with the form of case study. The data collection is based on documents analysis which comprises the works of Abu Zayd and the process of analysis is through thematic analysis methods that have been validated by Cohen's Kappa. The results show that the thought of Abu Zayd on Quran was humanistic hermeneutics. It took place in four stages namely the definition, language, the process of revelation and interpretation of the Qur’an. This thought is rejected by Quranic commentators for its contravention with the original concept of revelation and the Quran. The concept of cadalah and musawah according to Abu Zayd was humanitic which were contrary to al-Quran and al-Sunnah comes with the features of al-rabbaniyyah, al-huriyyah, al-haq and al-salam. Based on the themes that have been analysed, the study finds that Abu Zayd has done a new ijtihad of Islamic law based on the contextual aspects that can lead to the birth of humanism and feminist thought. The concept of cadalah and musawah organised by Abu Zayd is relative which focuses on the aspect of al-huriyyah with an emphasis towards humanistic value alone whereas ignoring the aspect of al-rabbaniyyah. The implication of this study shows that thought which glorifies human intellect alone must simply be controlled to avoid misunderstandings about Islam and its law. This study shows a big contributions to Muslim Ummah therefore they are careful with the propaganda those like Abu Zayd.
