Abstract

Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is emerging technology. ITS through Vehicular Ad-hoc networks (VANET) communications provides safety alerts and warning system, collision avoidance application system, routing and navigation system; and other related application for transportation managements system. These application required efficient routing strategy implementation and adaptively providing high throughput delivery for the highly dynamic topology. The designs of efficient vehicular ad-hoc network routing protocols however demands steep understanding of the vehicular mobility patterns. One of the challenges in establishing efficient connectivity is due to fact that vehicles are moving dynamically thus system topology changes therefore connectivity is difficult to establish. This paper, study node positioning and movement prediction of vehicle for ad-hoc communication particularly in urban area. Parameters involved are directional movement, vehicular density, and other demographic factors. Other factor such is peak hour's period when road density should also be considered although it is not directly taken into accounts in this study. The modeling technique used in this study is fuzzy logic inference system; it's been chosen as it offers reliable solution to dynamic and non-linear system. The models generated will be used for further investigation and exploration in designing robust and efficient vehicular ad-hoc routing protocol.
