Abstract

In this paper, maximum torque and power capability of permanent magnet flux switching (PMFS) machine with DC excitation is predicted. The proposed machine with additional DC field excitation coil as a secondary flux source offers significant advantage of flux control capability that suitable for various speed operating conditions includes in flux weakening region. Since there is no active components on the rotor making the machine extremely robust that suitable for wide speed range applications. The research target is to design and predict the maximum torque and power performance of outer-rotor PMFS machine with 1.0kg PM. Under some design restrictions and specifications similar as interior permanent magnet synchronous (IPMS) machine conventionally employed in existing hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), the design and prediction analysis using finite element method (FEM) is conducted. Finally, the proposed machine has achieved their average maximum torque and power of 335.08Nm and 160.2kW, respectively which is higher than IPMS machine
