Abstract

A new alternative construction system required is to provide fast construction, safe and energy efficient housing to replace the traditional system. There are many precast concrete panel systems available in the market where most of them are made of solid reinforced conventional concrete. These panel systems are strong but the strength over weight ratio is small. Therefore, a new precast system with high strength and reduced weight is needed to cater for this demand. Lightweight precast panel is a better system because it provides a fast and inexpensive way to construct a low to medium-rise residential building. It is lighter weight but can sustain loads up to 5 storey building. In this study, an effort is taken to develop a precast lightweight foam concrete sandwich panel (PLFP) with double shear truss connector to use as load bearing wall component. PLFP is a three layer element comprising of two layers of lightweight foam concrete as wythes and polystyrenecore as insulation layer. Itsstructural behaviour will bestudied based on experimental testing and finite element analysis. A mathematical model will be proposed from the results obtained from experiment, finite element (FE) and also from the theoretical study. PLFP is a potential product in IBS industry to provide benefits to users such as its insulation properties and cost saving nature.
