Abstract
The use of kenaf fibre in concrete possesses great advantages than other natural fibres. The advance development like three-dimensional concrete printing (3DCP) is still at early stage which is at development of concrete composite materials for concrete printing materials. Thus, in this research, introduction of kenaf fiber into cement are studied; the different weight percentages (3,5 and 7%) of untreated kenaf powder (KP) was used to mix with Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC). The cement mixture specimens were fabricated through conventional mold method. The setting time, slump flow diameter (SFD) and slump height (SH) were calculated for observe workability and flowability of cement mixtures. Further, the compressive strength and density were measured for hardened cement mixtures at 7, 14 and 28-days curing age. All these properties were evaluated by using ASTM standards. Additionally, microstructure of the cement mixture was analyzed through finite element scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). The optimum value of setting time was obtained as 190 minutes at 3% of KP. For workability and flowability, the optimum value of SFD and SH were achieved as 41 mm and 40 mm respectively at 3% of KP. The compressive strength and density increased by increasing the curing age, and the maximum value of them was obtained at upper curing age period. Moreover, the optimum value of compressive strength and density were obtained as 10.2 MPa and 1.71 g/mm3 respectively at 3% of KP. For microstructure analyses, the porosity and air voids increased by increasing the weight percentages of KP. As based on the obtained results, the addition of KP into cement can produce the lightweight concrete printing and the kenaf powder concrete mixture also have potential to be apply in the 3DCP machine in future experiment.
