Abstract

An appropriate capital structure policy is critical financial decision for any business organization especially for the maximization of shareholders wealth and firm sustainable growth. This study to examine the capital structure determination based on the firms characteristics for 30 Malaysian companies in the consumer sector listed in Bursa Malaysia. Data related to firms characteristics and capital structure were collected from 2013 to 2015. The study uses quantitative methods to examine the determinants of the asset structure, profitability, firm size, and liquidity. Ratio analysis on the financial statements and multiple regression was used to analyse the data to investigate the relationship between the firm's characteristics with the capital structure. Results showed there is a positive relationship and quick ratio showed a negative relationship.
